Luke Parker 2016 Brownlow Medal

Luke Parker of the Sydney Swans has had a fine season in 2016. He is a genuine contender for the Brownlow Medal this year.

Parker has actually emerged into one of the best players in the league, which is very impressive for a 23yo. So let’s take a detailed look at his 2016 season and see if he can win the Brownlow or not.

We have predicted Parker will poll 25 votes, which has him in outright second position, but still 6 votes behind runaway leader Patrick Dangerfield.

The biggest concern for Parker is the quiet patch between Round 7-13. We have him scoring 0 votes from this seven game patch and it unfortunately will be telling.

Parker started the season like a freight train. We have him polling 12 votes from the opening six matches. He did not poll again till Round 15, where he finished the season polling 13 votes from eight games.

It will be interesting to see how the umpires viewed his season. He has all the physical attributes of a Brownlow Medallist in that he is blonde, hard at it and gets plenty of free kicks. In other words, they will notice him.

Taking a look at his previous Brownlow Medal polling history does not make for great reading though. His best return was in 2014 where he polled 12 votes, then he backed that up with just 9 votes last year.

As third favourite, punters are predicting he will go very well, so if you think he can sneak home ahead of Dangerfield, then we suggest taking up the very generous odds of $21 while you can.
