Round 6 Votes

A new round and a new leader at the top of our Phantom Brownlow Medal count after Round 6.

After a lean couple of weeks, Tom Mitchell of Hawthorn was back in the thick of the action with 45 disposals.

That was enough to earn him 2 votes and outright top position on our leaderboard once more.

Round 6 means we are now past a quarter of the season and Mitchell has had a stunning season to date, with a potential 11 votes coming his way so far.

The other big mover this week is the big Melbourne ruckman Max Gawn. He is now into fourth position on 8 votes total, with an expected 3 votes coming his way for his efforts in dispatching Essendon yesterday.

Gawn has now has two 3 vote performances so far this year, plus there are two other games where he may poll votes. At odds of $34 with online bookie Sportsbet.com.au, he may be worth a sneaky punt.

2012 Brownlow Medallist Trent Cotchin is now starting to make his move too. He appears certain for 3 votes this weekend and that means he has now polled 7 votes over the past four rounds of footy.

Patrick Cripps appears to be one to watch also. He may play for one of the worst Carlton teams in their 121 year history, but he is absolutely dominating.

We have him on 7 votes now, which is no mean feat for a team that has started the season 0-6.

Western Bulldogs star Jack Macrae was the only other mover inside our top ten with a potential 2 votes coming his way in Round 6.

Macrae has really gone under the rader, but a quick look at our leaderboard shows he has been very consistent over the past five rounds with 1,2,2,0 and 2 votes. Definitely a player to watch.

Ohter notable games worth mentioning this week came from Lachie Neale, Marcus Bontempelli, Matt de Boer, Josh Kennedy (of Sydney) and Tom Lynch (of Adelaide).

Leaderboard - Round 6

  • 11: Tom Mitchell (Haw)
  • 10: Dustin Martin (Ric)
  • 9: Nat Fyfe (Fre)
  • 8: Max Gawn (Mel)
  • 7: Patrick Cripps (Car)
  • 7: Trent Cotchin (Ric)
  • 7: Brodie Grundy (Col)
  • 7: Steele Sidebottom (Col)
  • 7: Jack Macrae (Wb)

Looking Ahead

The big clash to look forward to in Round 7 is the Richmond vs Fremantle clash on Sunday afternoon.

That pits Dustin Martin (2nd) and Trent Cotchin (5th) against Nat Fyfe (3rd) which is a crucial match for the Brownlow Medal.

Tom Mitchell will be in action against Essendon, Max Gawn against St Kilda and Jack Macrae against Gold Coast.

All three of those would rate themselves as genuine chances to poll votes against.

It'll also be interesting to see former Blue b up against his former team in the Adelaide vs Carlton match on Saturday night.
