Round 9 Votes

Round 9 sees a surprise new leader at the top of the 2018 Phantom Brownlow Medal leaderboard.

Well, not a surprise really, if you have been following us this year. That new leader is of course Jack Macrae of the Western Bulldogs, who we sang the praises of last week.

Since Round 2 we have Macrae polling 3, 3, 3, 2, 0, 2, 2 and 1. He has polled 3 votes in each of the past three games and now sits on top of our leaderboard outright with 16 votes.

The Western Bulldogs were smashed by 37 points against the Crows and amazingly only scored 2 goals for the entire game.

Yet, that did not stop our media voters agreeing he will poll the 3 votes.

Max Gawn of Melbourne was another big mover in Round 9. We have him polling 2 votes in the Demons big 109pt win, but the Dees had plenty of players in the mix for votes, so it appears a tough game to call.

If our voting consensus is right for that game, Gawn now moves up to third position after Round 9 with a total of 12 votes.

The other surprise packet in Round 9 was West Coast forward Jack Darling.

Darling is having a career season in 2018 and has quietly moved into fourth position on our leaderboard with 11 votes. Over the past three rounds, he has polled 8 votes.

Steele Sidebottom of Collingwood and Ben Brown of North Melbourne both moved into the top ten in Round 9 as well, polling 2 votes and 3 votes respectively.

Our previous leader Nat Fyfe had a rather quiet round by his standards and is apparently battling a niggling injury.

Last years winner Dustin Martin had had a quiet month to date and has fallen 6 votes behind Macrae now, sitting in 6th position. But we all know how quickly he can get on a role don't we?

Notable performances in Round 9 include Jordan de Goey who booted 6.0 for the Pies, Zach Merrett in guiding the Bombers to a famous win, and Travis Boak for an inspirational game over in China.

Looking Ahead

There is plenty to get excited about in Round 10 with some very good games coming our way.

The Hawthorn vs West Coast match will have Brownlow Medal implications with Jack Darling and Tom Mitchell up against each other.

They are both locked in fourth position with 11 votes apiece, so will one of them break free in this match?

Jack Macrae will be looking for a forth consecutive match polling 3 votes when he tackles Collingwood under the Friday night lights.

On Sunday afternoon Nat Fyfe (2nd) and Ben Brown (10th) will face off when Fremantle and North Melbourne do battle in Perth.
